    TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1 - Late afternoon departure on-board a flight from Newark to Oporto, Portugal.

Day 2 - Morning arrival in Porto. Set out for the ecclesiastical city of Braga; one of the oldest Christian cities in the world and once the ancient Roman capital of Iberia. Mid-day arrival at the Shrine of Bom Jesus in Braga, famous for its Baroque 15th Century double staircase of 1000 steps, a catechism in stone. Continue east into Portugal's remote northern region of Tras-os-Montes (Behind the Hills), one of the most beautiful and least explored parts of the country. Pass by terraced vineyards, whitewashed villages and roadside shrines that still speak of a lifestyle passed down by the traditions and history that formed this land centuries ago. Late afternoon arrival on Mount Balsamao for check-in at the lovely hilltop guesthouse of the Marians of the Immaculate Conception.

Day 3 -Morning excursion to the royal city of Braganza whose roots date back to Portugal's founding. Just miles south of the Spanish frontier, this medieval city was first established by the Celts and later fortified by the Romans. Ultimately it took its name from its native Royal House of Braganca, the last line of Portuguese monarchs, who led Portugal and its colonial Empire for almost three centuries. Afternoon return to Mount Balsamao to visit a museum devoted to the 200 year history of the Marian Fathers in Portugal.

Day 4- Morning check-out and departure south for Fatima, stopping in the village of Balazar to visit the home of Bl. Alexandrina Maria de Costa, one of the greatest mystics of modern times. Also stop in the historic university city of Coimbra to visit the Carmel where Sr. Lucia, the oldest of the Fatima seers, lived for over fifty years prior to her death in 2005. Early evening arrival and check-in at Hotel Casa Dominicanas, close to the shrine grounds where the three shepherds of Fatima; Jacinta, Francisco and Lucia, were visited by Our Blessed Mother in 1917. Nightly Rosary and Candlelight Procession.

Day 5 - Enjoy a day in Fatima to take in the holy Sanctuary and surrounding area. See the chapel where the apparitions took place and the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary wherein are the tombs of the shepherd children. Also visit the Peace & Light Museum to marvel at the amazing gifts given to the shrine over the years.

Day 6 - Today enjoy an excursion to the Silver coast of the Atlantic. Along the way stop at a historic landmark attesting to the ages of faith in Portugal; the 14th Cen. Gothic Monastery of Batalha, built to thank the Blessed Virgin Mary for a great victory that secured Portugal’s independence. Upon reaching the Atlantic, enjoy the fishing village of Nazare with one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe. See a revered image of Our Lady nursing the Child Jesus, believed to have been carved by St. Luke. Lunch on the sea before a late afternoon return to Fatima. Tonight begins the vigil to commemorate the 102nd anniversary of the Oct. 13, 1917 apparition.

Day 7 -On this day, 102 years ago, the Blessed Virgin came to the shepherd children for the last time performing a great miracle of the sun which was witnessed by over 70,000 skeptics and believers alike. Join with pilgrims at the shrine for an inspiring anniversary ceremony beginning with the Rosary followed by Holy Mass and finishing with a procession of the Pilgrim Virgin statue as multitudes of faithful wave white handkerchiefs in farewell to Our Lady. Late afternoon visit to the quaint hamlet of Aljustrel where the shepherd children lived with their families. Take in the unspoiled beauty of the fields of olive trees as we walk along a cobblestone path to Valinhos (place of the Aug. 1917 Marian apparition) and Loca Cabeco (place of the Angel's apparitions in 1916). See the original homes of the shepherds and the church that they were baptized in.

Day 8 - Morning check-out and departure for Lisbon, the maritime city of St. Anthony. Mid-morning arrival and visit to the Poor Clares convent, a former orphanage that little Jacinta stayed at before her death in a Lisbon hospital. Next, drive along the scenic River Tagus, passing by historical monuments telling of Portugal's great Age of Discoveries. Lastly visit the church built over St. Anthony's birthplace. Late afternoon arrival and check-in at our hotel in Lisbon for a celebratory Farewell Dinner and overnight.

Day 9 - Morning flight departure from Lisbon to Newark Airport. Mid-day flight arrival in Newark.
